Antique "5-25-41" 1840s 14K yellow gold wedding band or stacking ring

A plain and simple 14K yellow gold ring with 181 years worth of history, and counting. The modest wedding band is engraved "N.V.D. to M.L.S. May 25th, 1841." In 1841, the 26 established states were all to the East of the Missouri River. The rest of the land was organized into Territories, partially occupied by the British, or Mexican land. At the time this ring was engraved, indigenous tribes were being displaced everywhere, both by individual settlers and as policy of the Federal Government (Trail of Tears). Frederick Douglass had only recently escaped slavery. Many other men, women and children were enslaved in the South and would be for decades to come. The first telegraph had not yet been sent. Abraham Lincoln was beginning to dabble in politics. The Oregon Trail was in use by settlers moving West. Across "The Pond," Queen Victoria was a young monarch and had just given birth to her son, Edward, the future King. There was much sorrow in the world and also . . . much hope. This is a powerful piece of jewelry.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
