Antique 1920s Egyptian Revival necklace with Neiger pharaoh pendant ✶ SALE ✶

A marvelous 1920s Egyptian Revival necklace with the primary component attributed to the Neiger Brothers. Neiger Brothers Egyptian Revival jewelry is highly collectible and quite rare to find on the market these days. Neiger pieces are unmarked but dealers can spot their work by certain identifying characteristics. In this case, the molded glass design of the pharaoh's face and the design elements on the sturdy brass mounting. This piece used to be a brooch (evidence of a pin back on the verso and also records of similar pieces in the marketplace) but it has been nicely repurposed and paired with an authentic 1920s Peking and blue glass beaded chain. Beautiful glass and painted enamel details.

After the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter in 1922, public appetite for Ancient Egyptian cultural symbols - including in costume and jewelry - was insatiable. Archaeological discoveries, as well as the building of the Suez Canal and (a generation earlier) Napoleon's campaigns in Egypt, encouraged a literacy in Ancient Egyptian culture among Europeans and Americans that continued into the 1970s.
