Vintage 1940s 1.08 carat Emerald Cut diamond engagement ring

What a rare treat! This 1.08 carat emerald cut diamond platinum engagement ring was made by J. &. L. Hartzberg jewelers in New York City around 1940. They operated for about three decades from the early 1920s to 1950 and were known for their platinum jewelry, especially diamond rings. This ring is a stunning example of their work and legacy.

The emerald cut diamond is the showstopper here, with a GIA clarity grade of VVS2 and a color grade of D - or no detectable color at all. These exceptional statistics are well-matched to the emerald cut style, which leaves nowhere for diamond imperfections to hide. The large step facets run nearly the entire length and width of the diamond, revealing the quality of the diamond millimeter by millimeter. This diamond is near perfection and is flanked by tapered diamond baguettes of equal quality.

The length-to-width ratio here is about 1:4, which gives us the classic, sophisticated proportions of an emerald cut diamond. The table on this diamond (top, flat facet) is expansive, which really opens up the stone and maximizes its enchanting "hall of mirrors" effect. Emerald cuts are beloved for their serene fire: a bright, crisp, clear brilliance that holds steady rather than crackles in the light. WE ARE IN LOVE!

This ring comes with a jewelry appraisal for insurance/replacement as well as a GIA Diamond Report.
