Antique 1910s foldable lorgnette pendant glasses

A beautiful pair of early 20th century lorgnette glasses with octagonal lenses. A lorgnette is a pair of spectacles - usually expandable - that are held by a handle up to the eyes, rather than with ear wires. They were worn on long "lorgnette chains" and most popular around the turn of the century. The name comes from the French verb "lorgner," which means "to squint." Hopefully, less squinting at the opera/ballet would be required with a pair of these!

This piece is silver tone (possibly 800 silver) with delicate engraved details. A little push on the thumb lever near the top of the handle opens the spectacles. A wonderful statement and conversation piece!

Shipping

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
