Antique Victorian lapis lazuli locket ring with hairwork

A remarkable Victorian hairwork ring fashioned in pinchbeck with a lapis-lidded face that opens to reveal plaited hairwork. Pinchbeck is a rare-to-fine gold alloy used in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The alloy resembles 18K yellow gold an is beloved for its color and quaintness. This ring has a sturdy shank and Rococo Revival shoulders with acanthus leaf details. The rectangular face hinges open to reveal a cleverly concealed compartment set with a pretty sample of plaited hair in two colors. The crystal is in the compartment is in beautiful condition and the locket closes with a tight "snap." A lapis dress ring at first glance but something much more interesting upon inspection! A superb collector's piece.

Shipping

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
