Vintage mid-century Margo de Taxco Design 5701 "Fanciful Pendant" necklace and earring suite

A necklace and earring set by the celebrated Mexican jewelry designer Margot de Taxco. This is design is #5701 or "Fanciful Pendants" in the register of her designs and was probably produced in the 1960s at her workshop in Taxco. Margot designed and made jewelry for years before beginning to experiment and eventually perfect the use of champlevé enamel in sterling. Her enamel work eventually came to define her impressive oeuvre, which spanned decades. Margot van Voorhies Carr - or Margot de Taxco as she branded her business - is regarded as one of the most influential Mexican silver artists of the 20th century. Her work incorporates a wide variety of motifs, ranging from Olmec/Aztec figurals to Art Deco Egyptian Revival patterns. This set comprises a blue enamel link necklace with a "V" shaped panel suspending the flat-backed "fanciful" drops. The earrings are full drops with screw back closures. Tab clasp for the necklace. Outstanding condition. A collector's piece.

Note: De Taxco's original drawing/sketch for this design "Fanciful Pendants" (#5701) is highlighted on page 64 of "Margot Van Voorhies, the Art of Mexican Enamel Work" by Penny Morrill.
