Vintage 9CT 1970s triple-band gimmel fede ring with diamond heart
A Victorian Revival triple fede or "clasped hands" ring with two hands bound around a tiny, heart-set diamond. This ring dates to the 1970s but this style of betrothal/friendship ring dates as far back as the 16th century. The ring is done in 9 CT gold with three, slim bands. One band is mounted with a right hand, one is mounted with a left hand, and one is mounted with a gem-set heart. The bands are secured and swivel from a common rivet at the back. The hands fit together perfectly - as in a handfasting ceremony - and hold the heart between them. The hands are nicely articulated with pretty cuff sleeves - one ruffled for a woman and the other more plain for a man. The white gold heart is set with a small single cut diamond. A beautiful anniversary or alternative wedding band.
The word "gimmel" comes from the Latin word for "twin," and is used to describe this ring style because the two parts of the ring come together to form the completed design. Not all gimmel rings have a hand motif, though. Some gimmel rings have interlocking, twin gemstones. The hands in this design make this gimmel ring extra special: a "fede" gimmel ring, with "fede" being the Italian word for "trust." The hands, and especially the addition of a third band with the heart and diamond indicates that this ring was given between lovers Gimmel and fede rings were used to contract marriages in Renaissance Europe.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.
International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
