Antique Georgian flat cut garnet ring with diamond shoulders
A rare and wonderful flat cut garnet ring from the Late Georgian Era. Acquired from a longtime collector, this ring glows with the memories of another time - nearly two centuries ago. The cranberry-colored garnet appears lit from within thanks to a thin layer of foil behind the gem. Wear and age have caused some imperfections in the surface texture of the foil, creating crinkled and colorful variations in the body of the garnet. The stone is set in a crimped and cutaway collet. The bridge (the bum!) of the ring has the characteristic billowy-edged and closed design with scored sides. The shoulders are set with old mine cut diamonds and the shoulders - originally bare - were hand-engraved by the last owner. Evidence of repair - expertly done - as well as the sturdiness of the shank leads me to wonder if it was replaced or re-made at some point in the life of the ring. Any modifications appear to have enhanced and stabilized the piece, which is welcome.
Note: Because of the age and construction of this ring (i.e. closed backs) we recommend gentle as opposed to daily wear.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.
International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
