Antique 1930s .83 carat Transitional Cut diamond solitaire engagement ring

A classic old-cut diamond solitaire ring in an antique Ostby & Barton mounting. We are super fond of the low setting here (check out that profile!) and the gorgeous, GIA certified .83 carat diamond.

Transitional Cut diamonds are diamonds that were cut in the early 20th century when lapidary techniques were shifting from Old European to what we now call the modern round brilliant. As with anything, this change in cutting style did not happen overnight: diamond cutters produced cuts that were on a spectrum between Old European Cuts and Modern Round Brilliants for many years, giving us a diamond has attributes of both cutting styles. GIA classifies these in-between diamonds as "Circular Brilliants," acknowledging that the characteristics present of both Old Euros (small tables, open culets, etc.) as well as modern round brilliants (diamond proportions, shape, etc.).

This diamond offers a twinkling and luxurious play of light across a tight starburst-pattern of facets. With a "G" color grade, you know that this sparkle is FOR REAL! The mounting of the ring is marked for Ostby & Barton, a highly regarded jewelry company of the day.

This ring comes with a jewelry appraisal for insurance/replacement as well as a GIA Diamond Report. View the report here.
