Antique 1900s Art Nouveau 14K plique à jour Spring flower pendant
Even from a distance, this pendant would be recognizable as Art Nouveau! The shape of the piece - tapered at the bottom and billowing up and out at the top - was a popular form in figural jewelry throughout the period. Like many of the best Art Nouveau pieces, this pendant conveys sensuality and reverence for the natural world. The design celebrates the plant in its entirety, not just the pretty, showy bits! The tangled roots and the bulb of the flower (perhaps an iris?) are just as much a part of this design as the buds and diamond-studded blossom. The plant has a fragile, tremulous quality and is botanically accurate. The frame of the piece is asymmetrical and it is flooded in plique à jour enamel, a translucent technique that creates a stained glass effect against the light. The enamel color is half-light and dusky: rose, violet, and blue. Marked 14K and likely American made. An extraordinary piece.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.
International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
