Antique 18K Victorian two-tone drop earrings with turquoise and pearl

A pair of Late Victorian earrings with a striking shield-shaped body and ornate mounted details in yellow and rose gold. I was delighted to find French gold hallmarks on the upper portion of this pair as well as the maker's mark for Savard & Fils of Paris, France. Savard was well known for his revolutionary process of gold plating and fabricating beautiful "bijoux en doublé," which is documented as early as 1827 and for which he won numerous awards. The "maison" also produced fine gold and silver jewelry, although in lesser quantities. These earrings date to the turn-of-the-century and appear to be a mish-mash of two earrings: an 18K yellow gold upper (Savard & Fils) and an 18K rose gold drop. We love them! The upper portion has a gold ball and callibré cut turquoise-set "box" with milgrained detail. The body of the earrings suspend below with a decorative rose gold wire which is "gathered" by an engraved detail at the center and accented with an acanthus leaves at the top. Small pearls are set in buttercup settings, too. The mounted details give these earrings great dimension on the ear. Sturdy enough for modern wear.
