Antique 1810s 10K Georgian Regency Era memorial ring with amethyst
A Regency-Era Georgian mourning ring dedicated to the memory of a woman who died in 1815. The ring is 10K rose gold with a grooved or "reed" shank that widens swiftly from 4mm at the back to 10mm at the shoulders. The shoulders are created by the continuation of the four reeds - one at the top, one at the bottom, and two intertwining up the middle. This style is very well known to the early 19th century, when mourning rings were being produced in great volume and the tradition of giving items of jewelry to the family of the deceased was wide-spread across classes.
This ring was probably in stock at a local goldsmith's shop and ready to be "fashioned" with a stone of choice and a personal engraving for the family. In this case, a foil backed amethyst cabochon is set at the center in lieu of a hair work compartment or other feature. The verso is engraved in memory of Elizabeth Sewell, who died at age 68, in perfect script.
Measurements: Size 5 3/4 US, 3.0 grams. We prefer not to alter this ring in any way.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.
International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
