Vintage ca. 1960s GUMPS Japanese freshwater pearl torsade and tourmaline earring suite

An unbelievable mid-century Japanese fresh water pearl and tourmaline torsade and earring set from the iconic Gump's of San Fransisco. The necklace boasts seven strands of hand-knotted pearls, ethereal and luminous. The pearls are most likely Biwa Pearls from Lake Biwa, Japan, as this was the favored pearl for this style of necklace at Gump's in the 1960s and into the 1970s. The torsade terminates in a "fruit salad" clasp with three colors of tourmaline and further (round) pearls in 14K yellow gold. The colorful gathering of gems repeats in the earrings, which are identical to the necklace clasp with the addition of a further, cranberry-red tourmaline drop. 14K mountings with omega backs.

These mid-century pearl sets from Gumps are VERY rare to find on the market because people hold on to them and pass them on! It is a thrill to offer such a stunning set, especially in their original red silk and embroidered Japanese "Gump's San Francisco" gift boxes.

Shipping

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
