Antique Victorian 1890s painted diamond habillé portrait brooch

A remarkable turn-of-the-century painted portrait brooch/pendant with a woman "habillé" in rose cut diamonds. Portraits, whether of a specific or imagined person, were worn in the Victorian era on brooches, necklaces, rings and bracelets. Portrait jewelry has been fashionable in many time periods but there was a special connection to this intimate accessory in the Victorian era. 

This portrait features a woman in a gold, enamel and diamond station frame. She appears to be quite well-to-do, given her sumptuous dress, sensational earrings, and bandeau and epaulets "habillé" in rose cut diamonds. Her features are painted in a Neoclassical style and every detail of her face, hair, hands, and dress is finely executed. Even the pleats in the fabric of her sleeve are painted with care. She lives in an oval frame with a scalloped gold border. Her background is an ombré sky. Ten bezel set diamond stations dot the perimeter of the piece, which may be worn as a pendant or a brooch. Likely American-made around 1900.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
