Antique Victorian 1850s 18K .85 carat VS2/L-M Old Mine cut diamond engagement ring
An old mine cut diamond ring in stunning condition as it nears its dodransbicentennial (175th birthday!) This all-original ring has English hallmarks for the year 1854. The primary diamond is a lively .85 carat Old Mine Cut diamond, cushion-shaped and full of light.
The diamond saw did not exist when this diamond was cut, which meant that the only way that the cutter could facet it was by grinding the rough diamond crystal away, bit by bit. Think of it more like “diamond sculpting” than “diamond cutting.” This method resulted in a classic antique cut diamond with a deep body, steep crown, and small table (the largest facet on the top). The proportions of this diamond allow for a slow-burning brilliance, flickering sparkle, and warm, colorful play of light. The diamond is set in a belcher setting with a low profile and ornate, Rococo-esque details. The use of high-karat gold and enamel was not uncommon for mid-19th century engagement rings, but even among the beautiful examples in this category this ring stands out for its exceptional gold and enamel work.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
