Antique 1920s .65 carat VS2/I Transitional Cut diamond solitaire engagement ring
A classic old-cut diamond solitaire ring in an antique mounting. The 14K yellow gold setting is marked for an American manufacturer and the inside of the shank is engraved "E.C. Xmas 1920." 105-years-old and counting! While this setting most likely held a colored stone originally, we updated it with a gorgeous .65 carat GIA certified Transitional Cut diamond - turning it into the engagement ring of your dreams.
Transitional Cut diamonds are diamonds that were cut in the early 20th century when lapidary techniques were shifting from Old European to what we now call the modern round brilliant. As with anything, this change in cutting style did not happen overnight: diamond cutters produced cuts that were on a spectrum between Old European Cuts and Modern Round Brilliants for many years, giving us a diamond has attributes of both cutting styles. In the case of this diamond, the small table, open culet, and deep pavillion are all hold-overs of Old European cutting techniques, while the excellent symmetry and flashy-fire are more typical of modern cuts.
