Antique 1920s gold fill BPOE "Elks" calling or business card locket membership case
And early 20th century calling card case bearing the emblem of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, or BPOE. The BPOE was one of many fraternal organizations in the United States around the turn of the century. The BPOE was founded in the 1860s by a man in New York City and was originally a social club created to serve and support actors and performers. The order eventually morphed into a more traditional fraternal order with religious and patriotic qualifying requirements and it is still active today.
This case would have been worn by a gentleman as a fob and used to carry calling cards or business cards, hence its rectangular shape. The face is machined with vertical pinstripes with the elk head and emblem in the upper left and a floral-framed initial panel at the bottom center. The verso is plain. The case opens with a knob clasp at the bottom. The interior is tidy but with evidence of some wear (verdigris). Overall gold fill finish is bright and rosy. Swivel hinge that serves as a bail at the top. Chain added by us.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
