Antique French 19th century wax seal etui drawer
A 19th century (ca. 1820s) French wax seal set, or sceau etui. It has eight small seals that can be stored in a drawer that fits into the seal handle. The cap-end of the etui removes so that you can set the desired seal for stamping. Functional and beautiful! The eight matrices are as follows:
🪦 1 ∙ a dog guarding a tombstone with an hourglass on top, “le temps passe, l’amitié reste/time passes, friendship remains” / 2 ∙ day of the week, “Samedi/Saturday.”
🌊 1 ∙ a greyhound running with a letter in its mouth and the phrase, “je suis pressé/I am in a hurry” / 2 ∙ a cliff in a storm and “calm au sein des orages/calm in the storm”
🫀1 ∙ a heart and “je ne suis pas gai si tu es triste/I am not happy if you are sad” / 2 ∙ day of the week, “Jeudi/Thursday”
💪🏼 1∙ a bulldog with “ami fidele, ennemi implacable/“faithful friend, fierce/relentless enemy” / 2 ∙ “Plus deuil que joie” - more grief than joy
🐎 1 ∙ a horse throwing rider with “Je suis libre/I am free” / 2 ∙ day of the week, “Mardi/Tuesday”
🕊️ 1 ∙ two riders racing horses and “Lequel?” or “Which one?” / 2 ∙ a bird escaping a cage, with the French, “Qui me neglige me perd” or “Love me or lose me.”
🔐 1∙ a padlock with the motto, “you have the key (to my heart)” / 2 ∙ day of the week, “Jeudi/Thursday”
🐶 1 ∙ a bulldog with “ami fidele, ennemi implacable/“faithful friend, fierce/relentless enemy” / 2 ∙ day of the week, “Lundi/Monday”
Measurements: 2 1/2" x 1/2". Each seal matrix measures approx. 7mm x 9mm (teeny but so detailed!)

Shipping
Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.
International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
