Antique 18K gold 1930s .25 carat Old European Cut diamond solitaire ring

An Art Deco diamond engagement ring with an Old European Cut diamond center. The primary diamond - approximately .25 carat - is set in a floating octagonal head. In addition to the strong, classic Art Deco geometric principles at work here, the ring is replete with delicate openwork and engraved details, including volute shoulders, blossom and scallops patterns up the shank, and criss-crossing lattice accents around the gallery. Two single cut diamonds are set  in triangular recesses at the shoulders, giving the face of the ring a shapely, satisfying form. 

A bit about Old European cut diamonds . . . Old European Cut diamonds are round diamonds cut before modern round brilliant cut diamonds were developed. They have small table facets, high crowns and chunkier facets than our modern round cuts. The culet (tip on the bottom of the diamond) is larger and can be seen through the table facet. The facets are irregular and not as precise as round brilliant cut diamonds because they were done by hand and before strict proportions for cutting were established. We love the chunkiness of these old cut diamonds, with more charm and character than diamonds that are cut by machine.
