Antique 1910s Victorian rose gold, garnet and pearl trimmed dress ring
A Late Victorian garnet and seed pearl dress ring set in 10K rose gold. The ring is sweetly engraved inside for "Martha A. Gerecke." Curious to know who she was, I went searching and found her in several census records. I learned that she was born Martha Baker in Germany in 1869 and immigrated to the U.S. with her parents as a young girl. She spent the rest of her life in Detroit, marrying, raising a family, and eventually dying in the city in 1938. Martha would have been part of a large population of German immigrants in Detroit around the turn of the century: in 1880, 20% of the population of the city was German-born.
Martha's ring was likely a gift and a cherished dress ring. The ring has a pretty rose gold mounting typical of the era, with hand-engraved details on the tulip-shaped or "shirt sleeve" shoulders. The ring features a beautiful merlot-colored garnet with a surround of full pearls, eight in all and all original to the ring. Excellent antique condition.

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.
International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
