Vintage 1930s natural saltwater pearl graduated necklace with marquise diamond clasp

An exquisite strand of natural (saltwater) pearls with a marquise diamond clasp. The one-hundred and forty-five (145) near-round pearls are individually knotted in a gently graduated sequence. They range in size from 2.4 -5.4 mm and shimmer with a creamy, rosy luster. The pearls secure with a .50 carat vintage marquise diamond clasp (VS2/F) and safety chain. As Erica Weiner relates in her excellent research on the history of pearls, the Roman author Pliny the Elder wrote, "a pearl worn by a woman is as good as a [herald] walking in front of her." Indeed, pearls - especially natural pearls - are the ultimate luxury.

Shipping

Domestic: In-stock items ship within three days of purchase (usually within two!) via USPS. Our default is USPS Priority Mail unless your purchase is over $1,000, in which case we require USPS Express Mail + signature confirmation. Insurance is included with all domestic purchases.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
