Antique Victorian 1840s enamel hairwork glass charm locket with fuchsia flower detail

A lovely ca. 1830s enamel glass charm with palette-worked hair and elegant fuchsia flower details. This piece would have been marketed as a box or glass charm, intended to hold hairwork completed at home or by a jeweler. This charm features piece curls against milk glass with coiled gold wire and a seed pearl band. The hairwork is encased beneath a glass frame. The face of the charm, most likely to be worn facing out, is 10K gold hand engraved and enameled with white fuchsia blossoms against a periwinkle background. In floriography - the Victorian language of flowers - fuchsia indicates abiding friendship, confidence, and refinement. White fuchsia further suggests a new beginning. It is somewhat rare to see fuchsia as a motif in antique jewelry and this is the ONLY example I have seen in enamel. There are marvelous examples carved in bog oak or vulcanite pieces from this same era. The enamel is in remarkable condition as is the hairwork (one pearl is loose under the frame). Sweet coiled gold bail on the larger size. I added a 14K figaro link chain.

International: Default shipping is via USPS First Class International Mail unless the value of the parcel is $400 or more, in which case we default to USPS Priority Mail International shipping. Please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Insurance for international orders is available upon request and for an added fee.
